Program Update from World Missions

May 8, 2020

While all mission teams have suspended travel plans for the time being, the World Mission Department is working to update curriculum and stay connected with partners worldwide, including collaborating with the Episcopal Church in Navajoland and Texas Water Mission to support hand washing stations and other water solutions in areas of the reservation and in communities without reliable water sources.

The annual Mother’s Day Offering to help women and children has changed a little this year, with donations made in honor of a special mom only being accepted online or via mail. The department is hopeful that enough funds will still come in to help with various programs, especially to help partner ministries and suffering families in the Navajoland.

The World Missions Department hopes to continue supporting other international mission partnerships, including the Threads of Blessing textile ministry in Uganda, the Rafiki Aids Orphanage in Kenya, several ministries with El Buen Pastor and Resurreccion churches in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, as well as with Love for the Least, an organization helping with the refugee crisis in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Other global programs the Department partners with include the Owen Computer Project for children, the Love Honduras Veterinary & Vision Team, and Manos de Dios Ministry, all of which serve communities in Honduras.

Marthe Curry, Director of World Mission, shares, "I see this global pandemic as an opportunity for us to do what we do best: be the church. The crucifixion and Easter were all about ushering in the Kingdom of God - righteousness, joy, and peace - where we take on the image of Christ and live out his message of love in word and deed."

A Prayer for Mission from the Book of Common Prayer
O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and you sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
