Registration Open for Camp Capers' 75th Anniversary Celebration

Camp Capers is celebrating 75 years of transformative experiences and bringing joy to campers of all ages. Make plans to head back to camp October 7 - 9, 2022 and join the Rt. Rev. David Reed, the Camps & Conferences staff, the 75th Anniversary Committee and your fellow campers to reminisce, tell stories and enjoy a magical weekend together in the hill country.

Camp Capers is excited to welcome back Camp Capers Alumni, retreat participants, parents, supporters, and former staff for a once in a lifetime celebration. The 75th Celebration weekend will include celebratory festivities like storytelling and campus tours, as well as traditional camp activities like kayaking, Arts & Crafts, Saturday morning Teaching, Compline service, Sunday Chapel, and plenty of free time with camp friends - new and old.

Marnie Brown, Committee Co-Chair, shares "The Camp Capers 75th Anniversary Celebration will be a time for former campers, staff, and anyone who has shared or wants to share in the magic of this blessings-filled place to reconnect, rejuvenate, and build a Christ-centered community together. For me, Camp Capers has always been a place for fun, camaraderie, and connecting with God...a place to be whimsical, sentimental, musical, and non-sensical. I am counting the days until I can pass through the camp gates again to reconnect with old friends and to meet new ones. I hope to see you there!"

Pop Up Art Parties

The 75th Anniversary Committee, Shannon Gill, Marnie Brown, and Kerry Green have designed a moving mosaic to be installed in the Lillibridge Dining Hall to mark the 75th Anniversary. To give as many people as possible a chance to help create the mosaic, several Pop Up Art Parties will take place throughout the diocese this summer. "We need help cutting aluminum cans (with proper tools and supervision) and punching out small disks to be put on large panels. When complete, they will come together to create large, moving mosaics. They are really pretty, and something everyone can contribute to regardless of art experience or talent," Kerry recently shared.

For those who aren't able to travel to Camp Capers for the celebration in October, this is the perfect opportunity to connect with other campers and still contribute to the weekend. The first Pop Up Art Party will be held May 22 from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in San Antonio.

Help Write the History of Camp Capers

Paula Allen, member of the diocesan Historical Commission, author, and columnist for the San Antonio Express-News, is writing a book about the history of Camp Capers with the help of Tom Lee and the blessing of the 75th Anniversary Committee and Bishop Reed. If you missed her recent column about the history of Camp Capers, click here to read how a POW’s escape in WWII helped establish Camp Capers. She is still in search of camp stories and photos to share.
