Development

In 1999, the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas embarked on an ambitious development program for our diocese.  Its purpose was to fund significant near-term and long-term mission needs.  Our development program is an ongoing endeavor because we recognize the continuous need to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to each generation. 

Phase I of the development program raised $12.1 million dollars in pledges and gifts and addressed needs in several important areas:  Good Samaritan Community Services, The Mustang Island Retreat and Conference Center, Camp Capers, TMI-The Episcopal School of Texas, New Church Starts, and The Everett Holland Jones Center at Cathedral Park.  We have served our Lord well in this effort. 

We are now in Phase II.  We face a world that is becoming increasingly chaotic and violent; a world that is more disconnected than connected.  People want to believe, and need to believe, that there is healing in life, that there is transformation in life, and that there is salvation in life.  These things – healing, transformation, salvation – are at the foundation of the Gospel, and we realize that it is our calling to share this Gospel, this Good News, in thought, word, and deed. 

As we step boldly into Phase II of our development program, our goal is to have a considerable impact in South Texas by supporting six particular ministries at this time:  Good Samaritan Community Services, New Church Starts and Relocations, Christ Chapel on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos, Camps and Conferences, The Mustang Island Conference Center, and TMI-The Episcopal School of Texas.
