Welcome or Welcome Back
The Direct Line e-newsletter has been distributed by the diocesan Office of Communications since September 2006 as a monthly, then bi-monthly publication to clergy and lay leadership of the diocese, mostly by self-subscription.
Now, the Direct Line readership will be expanded to include all clergy, church office staff, congregational leadership, and members of diocesan committees, commissions, and departments. In addition, anyone who wishes to receive The Direct Line is welcome to subscribe. If you are receiving this publication and do not wish to, you may unsubscribe by following the directions at the end of the newsletter. To keep our communications current but also to decrease your in-box clutter, we will distribute The Direct Line as needed and in concert with the broader life of the diocese. . All of our editions will keep you up to date about the latest postings on our diocesan website at www.dwtx.org, which we invite you to visit often.
- Marjorie George, Diocesan Communications Officer

Diocesan Day of Workshops on June 6 |
 |
On June 6, the diocese will host Abide in me: Congregations Growing Together on the campus of TMI-The Episcopal School of Texas. This day is devoted to the congregations of our diocese sharing ministries with each other.
In this day-long conference, members of our congregations will be the presenters for most of the workshops, bringing and sharing their most effective ministry ideas. Some 25 of our churches have agreed to present their "best practices" in several areas.
Our hope, and our suggestion, is that congregations will use this day to strengthen their team ministry by reviewing the workshop offerings, then assigning specific persons to attend the workshops.
The day will include a total of 31 workshops in three workshop sessions, so each participant will have three opportunities to learn from folks just like them.
Our day will begin with worship in the new TMI chapel, where Fran McKendree, a well-known Christian musician, will lead us in some very special music. Bishop Gary Lillibridge will offer a homily to start the day.
Box lunches are included in the cost of the day ($20) and participants will be free during lunch to explore TMI, compare notes as a congregational ministry team, or network with participants from other churches.

June 6: 31 workshops to choose from |
 |
On any given Sunday, a stranger may show up at your church front door. Are you ready to receive him or her hospitably and then to incorporate that person into the life of your congregation?
The folks at St. Stephen's, Wimberley, have a plan and will share that with workshop participants on June 6 at the Abide in Me: Congregations Growing Together Conference.
That's just one of the workshops participants may select from on June 6. Others will address ministries in the areas of :
- stewardship
- communications
- Christian formation
- spiritual life
- evangelism
- world mission
- congregational development
- recovery ministries
- music and liturgy
- administration
Each 1-hour-15-minute workshop will be presented once during one of the three workshops sessions. In addition, a World Missions fair will continue throughout the day. To see the workshops, go to Workshops
