	Wednesday, September 8 Brown Bag Lunches - Illustrator 101 Brown bag lunches is open all diocesan parish, school and service agency communicators to meet together every 2nd Wednesday of each month. We will be at the Bishop Jones Center from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. and will feature communication topics and discussions. Please bring your lunch and the diocese will provide something to drink. 	September 9-11 The Blessing Without Borders conference Many of our churches are discerning what it means to be a missional church and take God’s blessing out into our communities. But as primarily Anglo, middle-class congregations, do we have the tools and skills necessary to minister across a wide variety of cultural, ethnic, linguistic, economic, and racial barriers? The Rev. Dr. Eric Law, a widely recognized authority on multi-cultural ministry, will lead Blessing without Borders, a conference sponsored by the diocesan Reconciliation Commission and designed to give congregational leaders tools we might be missing. Law will focus on creating “grace margins” – spaces where it is safe for people to try something new and growth/change can happen. The conference is September 9-11 at Christ Church, San Antonio. Times are Thursday, Sept. 9, noon to 5 p.m.; Friday, Sept. 10, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 11, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided all three days, with breakfast on Friday and Saturday. 	September 12 - November 14 Coed Volleyball Season See the Sports in DWTX page for more details. To view the 2010 Volleyball schedule, click here. Coed volleyball season for Episcopal churches in San Antonio is September 12 through November 14. Games will be played at St. George (West Ave & NW Military Hwy) on Sundays between 2 and 5 pm. Churches planning to enter a team should contact Steve Rogers at dwtxsports@alamoministorage.com or 210-513-8620 (just leave a message). There is no fee for a team.
	September 17-19 Mothers and Daughters Camp A first ever for DWTX: Mothers and Daughters Camp will be held at Camp Capers, Friday through Sunday, September 17-19. Daughters ages 6 to 18 and their moms (or another woman who is a mother figure) are invited to spend a weekend as the kids do at summer camp. Cost is $120 for mom, $80 for daughter. 	September 22-24 Whose School Is It Anyway??? – A conference especially designed for rectors and heads of schools will be held at Mustang Island Conference Center. This retreat will focus on the unique relationship between church and school, and the benefits and challenges that go along with that partnership. Fun, fellowship and networking are all part of the conference. Room and board for the event will be $300; for day attendance only, $150. For information, contact Mary K. 	September 24-26 Education for Ministry (EfM) Mentor Training A fall training will be held at the Mustang Island Conference Center. A Basic and a Formation session will be offered. The Basic session is open to 6-12 participants. The Formation Event (Design Skills) is open to 6-12 participants. Trainers have not been assigned at this time. 	October 8-10 2010 College Conference The fall college retreat will be held at Slumber Falls, in New Braunfels, Friday evening after supper through Sunday morning after breakfast, October 8-10. The theme is, "Entering the Dwelling Places of the Soul" and during the weekend, we will explore the maze of dwelling places along the path toward union with the Beloved. 	October 22-24 Food for the Soul - A splendid weekend of tasting, chopping, preparing, learning, laughing, eating, and praising God for our many blessings. Enjoy jazz, learn about wine and knives, and work with our own Kathy Jansen and Sandra Schneider, preparing and acquiring favorite Mustang Island Conference Center recipes in your island kitchen. 	October 23 World Mission Arts Festival The fall Arts Festival will be at the Bishop Jones Center in San Antonio from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. There will be a variety of media and the same great DWTX artists who have displayed at previous fairs. 	November 11-14 Diocesan Silent Retreat The Diocese of West Texas Retreat Society will offer a silent retreat at the Moye Center in Castroville. The retreat begins at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday and ends at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. The theme is "The Heavenly Banquet: Food, Desire and Love of the Beloved." The Rev. Doug Earle will be the retreat leader. Each year’s retreat community is anchored in praying the Daily Offices together and celebrating Eucharist each day. Communal silence is nourished by sharing the holy space of this former convent and enriched by the conductor’s five meditations on a chosen theme. Abundant free time fosters solitary meditation, deep rest and renewal throughout the sixty-hour silence. The conductor is available upon request for individual conferences and confessions. 	November 12 The Bishop's Golf Classic The Bishop’s Golf Classic for 2010 will be held on Friday, November 12, at Canyon Spring Golf Club in San Antonio. This year we will have an earlier shotgun start at 11:30 a.m.. As in years past, proceeds will benefit children and youth of the Diocese of West Texas by providing funds for camp scholarships and cash awards for winning congregations for their youth ministry programs. 	November 13 National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Training Day The fall NAMI training day will be hosted by St. George Church in San Antonio for pastoral care individuals and clergy. 	November 20-21, 2010 Children's Choir Festival with Holy Trinity Cathedral School in Haiti The Diocese of West Texas Liturgy and Music Commission presents, "One in Spirit and Song." A Choir festival for all children grades 3-8, singing with Les Petits Chanteurs Boys’ Choir from Holy Trinity Cathedral School, Haiti. Children will practice on Saturday, November 20 from 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday, November 21 from 2:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. The final concert will be at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 21 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in San Antonio.
