The Rt. Rev. Dr. David G. Read Extends Invitation to Celebrate Camp Sunday
On Sunday, February 4, churches across the Diocese of West Texas will celebrate Camp Sunday, giving thanks for this vibrant and vital part of our life together. We are blessed to have three beautiful locations that house our Camps and Conference Centers, providing a safe and serene place for joyful gatherings, connections, restoration, and spiritual growth.
Our camps and conferences are recognized throughout The Episcopal Church and beyond. Originating with Camp Capers in 1948, diocesan camps now include Camp Capers in the Texas Hill Country, Mustang Island Conference Center on the Gulf Coast and Duncan Park in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. In these sacred spaces, campers can experience breathtaking views and participate in a variety of programs. As we reflect on our 150-year history as a diocese, we give thanks to God for the gifts of his presence in our camps, transforming the lives of so many for over a period spanning 75 years.
Camp Sunday provides a time dedicated to sharing the love and community that takes place at our diocesan camping programs. We invite you to sign up for sessions of Summer Camp or Family Camp at Camp Capers, Mustang Island Conference Center, and Duncan Park in 2024, and to help raise funds for camp scholarships.
Each year, approximately one-third of all camper families rely on partial or full scholarships to participate in this vibrant ministry of our diocese. The generous contributions of our members and communities enable us to continue to offer financial support for campers who might otherwise be unable to attend.
As we celebrate on Sunday, I also ask you to give thanks and praise for our incredible Camps and Conference Centers staff who bring enthusiasm, expertise, and endless dedication to our programs, facilitating God's work and changing lives.
Thank you for your continuing support of the diocesan this ministry. We look forward to seeing you at camp soon!
Blessings,
+David
