Habitat Builders of West Texas Complete Home in Victoria, Texas
Habitat Builders of West Texas sends its greetings and thanks to the donors and volunteers who supported the completion of another Habitat for Humanity home in Victoria, Texas.
This house will be a home to Kashena and her three children. They moved to Victoria in June 2017, to be closer to Kashena's mother, who is suffering from Huntington’s Disease, a progressive and incurable brain disorder. Then two months later, Hurricane Harvey destroyed their apartment, displacing the family. Work began on the home in the Fall of 2019 and was completed in July 2020.
Clergy and lay members from both Trinity Episcopal Church and St. Francis Episcopal Church in Victoria participated in the home's dedication, on August 4, 2020. The Rev. Stephen Carson, rector of St. Francis, Victoria, shares, "I’m so proud to be a part of the Diocese of West Texas! What an honor to be asked to say a prayer for this wonderful family as they move into their new home. The Diocese has funded and built a lot of homes through Habitat for Humanity over the last several years. I’m glad to have been a part of the one just finished in Victoria!"
Kashena’s grandfather, Pastor James Bryant of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Columbus, TX, also attended the dedication and blessed the home. Kashena thanked everyone there and told the attendees, “I want a safe home where my children can play in their yard, because I have never had that." Kashena and her children are now living in their new home.
