A Message from our Bishop: Announcing the Retirement of Dr. Marthe Curry, Director of World Missions

The Rt. Rev. Dr. David G. Read, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas, extends his heartfelt thanks to Dr. Marthe Curry, Director of World Missions, upon her announcement of retirement at the end of February 2024.

Bishop Read states, “To say we are sad to see Marthe leave is an understatement. The impact of her vision, dedication and action over the past 25 years is immeasurable. Marthe has inspired countless members and parishes in the work of evangelism and mission, bringing the light of Christ into impoverished communities, while raising awareness to the needs of our brothers and sisters across the world. Her legacy will live on in the thriving World Missions Ministry. It has been a pleasure to work with Marthe, and we wish her the best.”

Marthe’s work with the diocese began in 2002, and she was named World Missions Development Director in 2007. In 2017, Marthe became Head of the World Missions Department, a ministry that is recognized globally. Leading mission teams and establishing ongoing ministries across the world, Marthe’s love of God and passion for the ministry is present in the diocese’s missionary work in Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, South Dakota, Kenya, Mexico, Najavoland, Puerto Rico, and Uganda.

Quoting the author Erma Bombeck, Curry states, “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me'.

Marthe recently published a series of devotionals, “Come and Go with Me: A Collection of Stories and Lessons”, a compilation of motivational blog entries that she was called to write, urging readers to persistently seek a deeper connection with Jesus Christ.

Love in Christ,

+David
