What is a Bishop Suffragan?
A bishop suffragan is a bishop elected to support the diocese - a full bishop of the whole church who will take their place in the House of Bishops; yet, a bishop suffragan is elected for a specific geographical area.
Duties of the Bishop Suffragan of the Diocese of West Texas
The role of the bishop suffragan in West Texas will be to assist the bishop diocesan in the unique ministries of West Texas.
- Make congregational visits – confirming, receiving and reaffirming.
- Celebrate the sacraments – preaching and teaching in congregations.
- Represent the diocese at events and on boards as requested by the bishop diocesan.
- Conduct oversight of the development of Lay Ministry in the diocese, Christian Formation and Discipleship.
- Assume other responsibilities that align with the gifts and passions of the bishop suffragan.
- …and the all-encompassing “other duties as assigned”.
