An Invitation to the Pavilion at Cathedral Park
Fall is an ideal time to visit the Pavilion at Cathedral Park in San Antonio. Built in 2014 with funds raised by local donors as a new outdoor gathering space at the Bishop Jones Center, the Pavilion is located along the upper spring-bed of the San Antonio River. Its lower level sits just above the flow of the springs. The middle level is a screened room (300 sq. ft.) surrounded by deck and trees. The upper level is a small viewing platform overlooking the tree tops with two benches.
The Bishop Jones Center holds the diocesan offices and sits on 19-acres of land, known as Cathedral Park. Open to the public, Cathedral Park is a peaceful, green space perfect for a family picnic or personal prayer walk. Cathedral Park's meandering walking paths feature fountains, benches for sitting and relaxing, and beautiful landscaping highlighting native plants. It is open to the public from sunrise to sunset, with a side gate for access during non-business hours.
Groups that reserve the Pavilion will find a storage room on the middle level with six round tables, two standard 6-foot tables, eight thin rectangular tables, and 50 chairs. Anyone using the Pavilion is welcome to use the tables and chairs; we ask the tables and chairs be put away after use. A restroom is available in the building near the pavilion walkway entrance. The pavilion is open daylight hours. Park your car in the main lot, at the 111 Torcido Drive entrance, and then follow the gravel path that leads to the pavilion. There is parking outside the main gate with a footpath entrance for weekend visits.
Groups are required to reserve the pavilion and the smaller adjacent parking lot, by contacting Melissa Soderberg, at melissa.soderberg@dwtx.org or (210/888) 824-5387.
Please come enjoy this amazing gift in the middle of creation.
