Diocese of West Texas Reveals New Logo

In 2024, the Diocese of West Texas celebrated our 150th year and commemorated the milestone with a special logo that was utilized throughout the year. At Council 2024, Bishop Read encouraged the diocese to return to our roots and embrace our missional spirit. As we near 2025, we are pleased to announce that we will be transitioning to a new logo, featured above, designed to reflect our diocesan history and identity within our official branding.

Beginning January 1, 2025, the 150th logo, intended for use only in our sesquicentennial year, will be phased out. We will also be retiring the previous diocesan logo that includes the agave graphic.

Similar to the 150th logo, the new logo includes our diocesan shield, now with enhanced shades of blue and red hues. The logo will be the primary brand reflected on diocesan communications. The elements of the shield include:

  • In the upper left, is the Alamo, the cradle of Texas liberty.
  • The star in the upper right represents the Lone Star of Texas and the star of Bethlehem.
  • In the lower left is the lion of St. Mark, signifying the first cathedral site in San Antonio and the wild nature of Texas.
  • In the lower right, the ox represents St. Luke the Physician and the cattle of Texas.
  • Six capped flags remember the number of flags over Texas during its history with the seventh being that of the Church.
  • Within the bishop’s miter, a spray of lilies (for St. Anthony of Padua), and a field of bells (for St. Anthony of Alexandria) are reminders of the namesake of San Antonio, the diocesan center city.
  • Pearls for truth adorn the miter, and tabs for the Old and New Testament hang from the miter.
  • The motto, in Greek, from Mark’s Gospel, 9:23, reads “Everything is possible to one who has faith.”

Additionally, a diocesan seal has been designed for use when there is limited space to include the full logo, as well as on documents and apparel that are better suited for use with the seal. The seal incorporates the diocesan shield, along with the wording identifying the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas.

A logo usage guide may be accessed here, as well as on the diocesan website where logo files may be downloaded.
